Not enough traffic! by Barnsley to /forum/atc-sim

jlrwi 1 point

I could see at least a couple ways that this might be modeled.

  1. Have a command that would increase or decrease the traffic rate.
  2. Take a snapshot of actual traffic over a 24-hour period and provide a command that allows you to pick what time of day you want to play. At most airports, late afternoon would be the busiest. This option would provide more ebb and flow in the traffic rate.

That's a problem that's high on the list of requested fixes. At what airport did you see this happen?

Aircraft line-up time unrealistic? by AndrewUK to /forum/atc-sim

Andrew - since you are a pilot maybe you could address another timing issue. How long does it typically take after ATC issues an in-flight clearance before the flight crew begin executing the change?

ATC-SIM Helper script and chain commands gone? by Evan to /forum/atc-sim

jlrwi 0 points

I'd guess that there is not necessarily a connection between the changed waypoint behavior and the script no longer working, except that there are many programming changes that have to happen to implement new features for the sim.

Bug fixed where aircraft would circle waypoints and navaids after passing them by Murillo Coutinho to /forum/atc-sim

If we want full realism (according to FAA ATC regs), the hold command should have an optional "leg length." (It also says the default turning direction is to the right.) Thus, holds need four pieces of data:

  1. Fix
  2. Heading
  3. Leg length
  4. Turn direction

Command chaining by jlink to /forum/atc-sim

jlrwi 1 point

My opinion is that the "C" command should be for immediate actions and a separate command (FP for flight plan?) be used to issue a string of waypoints together. This way there's no confusion about whether to do something immediately (C) or upon reaching a waypoint (FP).

To clarify what you are asking, how would this differ from issuing these two commands:

Ohare 22L Heavy jet departures by northland to /forum/general

I'm pretty sure I've heard (via liveatc) heavies depart 22L during adverse weather (strong winds from the south or storms directly west of the field), but I think it is quite rare under normal conditions.

O'Hare ATC procedures primer by jlrwi to /forum/airports

I forgot to say anything about altitudes. In general, aircraft that use the east-west arrival corridors stay high until they reach the corridors, which allows departures to climb and cross underneath them when necessary. The arrivals can start descending in the corridor. My recollection is that most departures are cleared to 15,000 ft. when they are cleared to their departure point, but maybe that's just how I've been playing it.

Planes not landing by tsizemore to /forum/atc-sim

jlrwi 1 point

Landing airplanes will descend and decelerate as they approach the runway. If your planes are doing both but don't land, then they are either too high or too fast when they reach the end of the runway. Try lining up farther out so you can execute the landing command earlier.
